THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T LIKE BEING PHOTOGRAPHED
Welcome. I’m James, a Sussex based wedding photographer and I document weddings across Sussex, London, Kent and the whole of the south east. My approach is sensitive and unobtrusive. For example, many of my clients say “I’m not very keen on being posed or having a camera pointed at me”. I really understand that feeling and that’s where I come in. To declare your love amongst family and friends is a wonderful and emotional commitment. In subtly documenting the emotions, the love, the humour and details of a unique day, I create a set of timeless, natural memories for you.
“James is an excellent photographer. He sees all the magic moments and captures them perfectly.
I had pretty high expectations but even so, they were massively exceeded! We had such a fun and easy time with him and his informal approach made us feel relaxed.
We now have an amazing set of pictures from an amazing day, thanks to James’ brilliant work. Thank you James!”
“My husband and I feel very lucky to have had James as our wedding photographer. Our wedding was very informal and we wanted our guests to feel relaxed and enjoy our celebration with us. We were looking for a sussex wedding photographer with the same approach, to capture the natural emotions of people, with nothing staged.
James is such a genuinely nice guy, everyone felt at ease with him and he didn’t just feel like ‘the wedding photographer’, he really felt like one of our guests!”
“Having Googled Sussex Wedding Photographer, the moment I spoke to James I felt I’d found someone who completely got what we were after. Of course you expect a photographer to be very professional and reliable, which he is, but more than that he manages to beautifully balance being friendly and unobtrusive.
Above all, we love the resulting photos. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Sussex, we cannot recommend James highly enough.”
MY COMMITMENT IS TO SENSITIVELY DOCUMENT YOURS
My work is about movement, beauty and narrative. For example, the photograph above captures all three; you see a beautiful moment in motion which tells a story. Specifically, Emily is turning round to point out to friends and family that Liam has a tear is in eye. Liam’s not afraid to show his emotions and in addition, their guests had a little sweepstake running on how long into the ceremony it would be before that happened.
MOVEMENT
With a glance, an embrace, or a gesture, we use movement to communicate our feelings and emotions. Therefore, understanding movement is a really important part of photography. I capture real emotions and the natural spontaneity of events to create more than beautiful pictures. Above all, lifelong memories which take you back to the feeling of the moment.
BEAUTY
I see beauty in natural expression, in colours and in light. In addition, I document beauty through discreet observation, by recording real interactions rather than ‘creating’ moments. Specifically, combining light, expression and movement in the context of your venue is what I do. A photograph is literally a record of reflected light. Even more, a beautiful photograph tells a story.
NARRATIVE
Narrative is all about connections and relationships. Furthermore, documenting the links between people and events combine to create timeless stories. Above all, I document truly personal stories and turn love, friendship and family into photographs. In other words, from you greeting your guests to letting loose and at the end of the day, I’m quietly documenting, observing and blending in.
NO CHEESE, ONLY CRACKERS
I won’t ever pose or direct you unless you specifically ask me to and I believe events and feelings are best captured by anticipation, timing and observation. Whenever you look at your photographs, you’ll relive the emotions you felt at the time.
The minute you get in touch I’ll check my availability and suggest meeting to chat through your plans and ideas. In addition, I’ll bring a few albums too so you can take your time looking through complete weddings. You’ll receive a bespoke quote and once agreed, a deposit secures your date. Choosing the right photographer for you is a big decision and my client relationships are everything.
“Hi James, thank you for getting back to me, we would love to meet with you! I’m so impressed with your style of photography – it’s exactly what we’ve been looking for. Our original plan was to not have a photographer at all as we didn’t want any posed photos as it just isn’t us.
Being wedding novices we assumed that all wedding photographers would have us gazing at each other like the front cover of a Mills & Boon book and peeping from behind a tree. Obviously no offence to those styles but they’re not for us.
We live in London, two kids, two jobs so we’re not incredibly flexible during the week but please let us know good days/times for you.
“We are having a last min break in Camber Sands 1st, 2nd, 3rd September and visiting the Old Rectory so we could meet if you’re free any of those days?Tom (the groom) said definitely a beer! Thank you and look forward to meeting you soon. Lyndsey“
Lyndsey put me next to her father in the seating plan. “James, he’s a keen photographer”. We did indeed talk cameras.
Once you’re booked in, a joint look round your venue/s works really well so we can catch up on how your plans are going, talk to key members of staff and share ideas. On your day, I’ll arrive with time in hand.
I never interfere but love to help; I’ve opened champagne when nails are drying, taped up the groom’s music stand for his love song and donated more than a few white umbrellas over the years!
I’ll keep you up to date with editing progress and you’ll receive your print ready images individually processed in both colour and black and white via a private online gallery within four weeks. My standard is that every one of your photographs can be framed on your wall.
You can download, share and print your photographs for as long as you like.
